Just Another Spring Day...

April 15th should be just another Spring dayWouldn't this be nice? April 15th - just another sunny day... Think about how much time and effort goes into tracking accounts and expenses on a daily, monthly, yearly basis. Why?

Check out FairTax.org and see a better way. Better for you, better for business (watch them flood back INTO the US), better for the environment (think of all those paper forms), better all around. Check it out.

Corporate Taxes

Why don't people understand this? Expenses and costs flow downhill to the customers and the employees. If you hammer the corporation (oil or otherwise), the natural process is either that the corporation must then either cut expenses (wages & wage increases) or charge more (cost of product). It hurts American families more than corporations. I like the quote that Yogi added along with this:

“Nothing is easier, or more emotionally satisfying, than blaming high prices on those who charge them, rather than on those who cause them.”
Thomas Sowell

Good job Red Planet Cartoons.

AA-12. World's Deadliest Shotgun!

Is this the next generation home security system? I think the author is correct, the enemy definitely fears the shotgun. What an amazing weapon for our military.

So Long, William F. Buckley

I know it's a wee bit late, but I just had to say farewell to one of the truly unique and talented conservative minds.

Good Overview on Mr. Buckley

FISA Falls as House Vacations

If you don't think Congress dropping the ball on FISA is a big deal, you aren't paying attention.

From the New York Post:
"February 18, 2008 — The Protect America Act - a modernization of the three-decade old Foreign Intelligence Surveillance Act, which authorizes intercepts of foreign communications - has expired.

"Before departing on a 10-day recess, House Speaker Nancy Pelosi and her fellow Democrats Thursday refused to vote on a reauthorization of the law - even though it passed by a huge bipartisan majority in the Senate earlier in the week.

"However, House Democrats did find time to issue contempt-of-Congress citations to White House Chief of Staff Josh Bolten and former counsel Harriet Miers. The citations relate to the overblown fired-federal-prosecutors “scandal” of a year ago.

"Thus, Pelosi and Co. made their priorities abundantly clear to the country:

  • Play politics.
  • Go on vacation.
  • To hell with national security."

Who is this Mouse?

Lost at Trivia last night. We were in first place going into the final bonus question and wagered all of our points on the category "Famous Mice." And this little rapscallion to the left hosed us big time.

I hate meeces to pieces...

As an aside, we sat next to the "Icehole" team and so I felt comfortably at home throughout the evening.

Snoopy on Taxes

If only it were this easy... For those of you who haven't started yet, better get with it. Why in the world do we have such a convoluted system? It makes no sense... no sense at all. We need a simpler, fairer tax system.

My daughter just got her first job and her first paycheck. It reminded me of a line from the TV series, "Friends" when Rachel got her first paycheck. She looked incredulously at her net pay and questioned, "Who is FICA and why are they taking all my money!?!"

Barack Hussein Obama

More than 80 attorneys who have been offering free-of-charge legal services to Guantánamo detainees (what are they being held for?... terrorism?) issued a statement Monday supporting Democrat Barack [Hussein] Obama’s presidential bid.

No Real Choices...

This is certainly how I felt on "super" Tuesday. And, based on various conversations - there were a bunch of us. Sheesh...

The 9/11 Generation

9/11 Generation Steps UpIn the movie "Shooter" (a movie that seemed to me to be confused about its politics), Marine Corps sniper Bob Lee Swagger (Mark Wahlberg) makes the mistake of starting to apologize for the death of his buddy. Sarah Fenn (Kate Mara) slaps him and then admonishes him for trying to steal his buddy's honor. She says something to the effect of, "He knew what he was doing and he died doing what he believed in - don't take that from him." My apologies to the script writer. She made what was probably the most significant point in the movie.

The Weekly Standard has an excellent article about how a generation of young (and not-so-young) people are stepping up to protect freedom... and how liberals and the media seem to want to strip the honor from that by making them out to be young, ignorant kids with no other options.
